Thought for the day – the Hunt affair

Think how badly the backbench Conservative MPs littering twitter and the airwaves expressing the apparent belief that Jeremy Hunt and his office (including his special adviser for whom he was under the ministerial code personally responsible) handled the BSkyB bid appropriately, despite every lawyer who has commented on this confidently asserting that-  even reading a best case scenario for Hunt – any decision he would have reached would have been struck down in judicial review as unlawful, would have reacted if the Liberal Democrats had decided to do the right thing and vote against Hunt.

As it is Clegg’s tactical masterstroke of abstention means Hunt will probably survive – albeit damaged – and the Liberal Democrats will look ridiculous by not following through and supporting the consequences of what one assumes is their position. Top work Nick.

About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.
