Blah blah blah journey blah blah talent show blah blah

It’s Saturday night which means that the populace is forced into a televised choice between the jazzed up snooker (in its short form basically a glorified version of Pot Black with added theme tunes, flashing lights, an annoying announcer (“let’s get the boys on the baize” is a catchphrase up there with John major’s famous “public sector borrowing requirement”), John “adverbs are my enemy” Virgo, not saved by the appearance of the blessed Hazel Irvine); a permatanned buffoon whose career should have reached its peak with “pets win prizes” but is somehow viewed as a credible questionmaster for TV’s toughest quiz (after Mastermind, University Challenge, Only Connect, The Chase, Eggheads, WHo wants to be a millionaire?”, 101 ways to leave a gameshow, Antiques Master, Ready Steady Cook, Bargain Hunt, Hole in the Wall, Deal or No Deal, in fact come to think of it – there is no quiz or gameshow that it’s tougher than); or ITV’s talent show of the day. This is the singing one where people have journeys, really make songs their own, and an audience revels in manufactured pap. Whoop de doo.

Meanwhile in Saturday television of long ago here’s Dave Allen:

About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.
