David Davis

Meant to mention this last night but when Davis resigned last week I suggested that one of his motives appeared to be to

“stiffen … the Conservative line on the issue of civil liberties”

it’s nice to see the commentariat now taking that line too.

David Davis’s website on these issues is now live – at David Davis for Freedom.    And as he promised in his resignation speech last week it is limited to a variety of civil liberties issues, including ID cards, 42 days detention, preservation of jury trials &c.  NOw I have problems with a number of Davis’s views – capital punishment, his voting record on gay rights, and I personally am uncomfortable with 28 day detention without charge, never mind 42 days.  However, as he seems to be sticking to his word on what he will be campaigning on a small cheque will be making its way to his campaign.

The Rupert Murdoch for autocratic oppression website will be coming along soon.

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.
