Best of Television 2009

BBC4 – Curse of comedy series 2

Norman Collier – behind the mic … own …

John Henshall starred as much-loved funnyman Norman Collier in a dark study of Collier’s bittersweet rise to fame.  Focused around an unsuccessful appearance on 3-2-1 caused Collier to re-evaluate his comedy technique we saw the dark heart underpinning his ever-entertaining faulty microphone routine.  A star turn from Robert Carlyle as Chris Emmett, and Ray from Life on Mars as Bryan Rogers from the Bryan Rogers Connection.  The pivotal performance as Ted Rogers from Robert Glenister was BAFTA nominated losing out to Sid Owen’s revitalised Ricckkaayy in Eastenders.

About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.

  1. CoC 3 – Jim Bowen and the Nig-Nog Incident, starring Peter Kay as washed-up Northern comic Bowen, fallen from grace after the demise of Bullseye and reduced to doing Radio Lancashire’s breakfast show… until his career is torn apart by one remark…

I have another suggestion on who should play Norman Collier. Just the tonic he needs after a rough weekend too!
