About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.

“Michael Parkinson will interview two sirs, two dames and David Beckham on his last-but-one TV chat show.”
And can I for one make the point that unless England qualify for and win Euro 2008, they had damn well better not give him a knighthood?

;o) As my normally mild-mannered brother once said to a colleague who was giving him gyp: “Any more trouble off you and I’ll be sticking that where the sun doesn’t shine — and I don’t mean Grimsby!”

“Funnily enough, they accused my sunbed buddy of swinging as well.”

I think you’ll find it was Labour who finally abolished grants, during Blunkett’s tenure at education early in the first Blair government. The Tories wanted to – and more or less froze the amount after about 1980, as well as scrapping housing benefit for students outside of term time – but never quite killed them off.

I first heard of him when I lived in London and he had a show on LBC which was a speech based radio channel. This was in the pre James Whale/shock Jock days and he was actually quite good and original. I couldn’t stand the Beadle’s About stuff but all the same I’m quite sad to hear of his passing

    pleural plaques bill in Scotland
Have you forgotten the unanimous Court of Appeal comments on quantum for plaques? If plaques become actionable, quantum will be determined by that judgement where guidelines are clearly set out and were not appealed to the HOL. The legislators clearly had this in mind. You, sir, apparently did not.

The SNP read to me as very like Fianna Fail – basically populist with the focus being power rather than an over arching theory about what to do with it. In Ireland this resulted in a lot of corruption inthe Haughey years but doesn’t seem to have harmed FF much in the polls.
But this is why I can never see myself ever giving the nats even a preference or a list vote – they just set off an atavistic alarm bell for me.
