What the world needs now

Some stories show how far the world of cinema has moved from Bergman and Antonioni

The BBC today reports,

“The X Factor and American Idol judge Simon Cowell is to make a movie set behind the scenes of a TV talent show. [whoop de doo]
The film, currently titled Star Struck, will tell the fictional story of 10 contestants in a singing contest. [where did he get that idea from?]
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the former Pop Idol judge said: “We want it to be the musical version of Rocky – an underdog story, a feelgood film.” [what the world needs now – a musical version of Rocky]
Cowell will help pick the lead characters from open auditions like those used on his talent shows.  [and there’ll be a spin off telly show no doubt]
Cowell, who will produce the film, said he wanted complete unknowns to be the stars. ” [it would of course be unfair to suggest that this was to cut the costs and ensure maximum profits go the production team]

We can expect this delight in our cinemans next summer.

About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.
