More MacCaig

Two short MacCaig poems.  When asked how long he took to write a poem he said “one cigarette”.  His longer works were “two fag poems”.  These are quick puff poems I guess.

Patriot  (from p 510 of the Ewen MacCaig edited Poems of Norman MacCaig, 2005)

My only country
is six feet high
and whether I love it or not
I’ll die
for its independence.

Party  (from p 42)

Watching your face
That makes an emptiness of this crowded place,
I stand, not speaking, terrified to see
You grown more lovely, and still lost to me.

About loveandgarbage

I watch the telly and read when not doing law stuff and plugging my decade and a half old unwatched Edinburgh fringe show.
