Seven Prides for seven Brothers
Virginia McKenna and Simon King presented this show in summer 2007 with Catherine Tate featuring as the voice of Elsa.
As part of the BBC’s Big Cat Week and following the success of the reality shows based in a convent and monastery the Beeb took seven monks from their monastery to the Serengeti and left them to fend for themselves near a pride of lions. The intention was that monks would be voted off daily before being moved to another part of the park After picketing at Wood Lane religious bodies, fresh from the end of the run of Jerry Springer the Musical, forced the Beeb to pull the programme after two days having made complaints as to the use of monks for entertainment purposes.
After broadcast two monks left their orders to move to Bristol and join the BBC Wildlife Unit.
