I understand the new Doctor has been cast and it’s Matt Smith.
I can see why he’d like to leave ITV SPort. He has been sidelined a bit recently since the arrival of Steve Rider – although the departure of JIm ROsenthal must surely have seen his profile rise and Rider won’t be around forever. Anyway he is now stuck on ITV4 for the most part doing the second choice CHampions League games and that BArry Hearn inspired darts tournament. He also did the weekend breakfast show on Radio Five for a while and apparently used to present children’s radio on RAdio 4.
While his journalistic credentials no doubt will allow him to deal with the publicity trail for the series it doesn’t really tell us much about his acting ability. Anyway we must assume that Steven Moffat knows what he’s doing. However, for me this is a courageous choice.
ETA = ah it’s the other Matt Smith. Well he was all right in the very poor Party Animals (whose political advisers wanted shot given the inaccuracies that littered the scripts) and he seemed okay in that thing with Billie Piper. Oh, and he has an enormous chin and forehead. Has he been cast in anticipation of HD widescreen or an IMAX movie? Still, unless he can do a turn hosting the darts in the interim I’ll reserve judgment.
I’m personally disappointed to hear of William Hartnell’s departure after all this time.
I understand his replacement, PAtrick Troughton, once appeared in RObin Hood so at least he’s not a complete unknown
