    Don’t they ask these people whether they’d accept it before announcing the list? Seems they could avoid some embarrassment that way.

    • They are asked in advane, so in the space of 6 weeks he’s changed his mind – no doubt for maximum publicity.
      The list of those that have rejected HOnours in advance, without publicity, includes Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Jim Broadbent, and others (there’s a lits in today’s Guardian)

    I don’t quite understand this; aren’t people who are getting honours notified before the list is published? Certainly those I know with gongs were informmed before hand. Because if I’m wronf about that, and they aren’t, why don’t we see more refusals? I can’t think of another one. So, he’s clearly told them he’s going to accept it, then changed his mind, or not told the truth to make a splash now.
    (Not that I think he’s wrong. mind.)

    • I’ve replied to peeeeeeet above.
      They are asked in advance, so in the space of 6 weeks he’s changed his mind – as you suggest this is no doubt for maximum publicity.
      There is a list of those that have rejected HOnours in today’s Guardian.
