Field Marshall Dr Styre speaks

Field Marshall Dr Styre has addressed the press of Sontar.  In recent years the military might of the Sontaran empire has been stretched by an ongoing war on abstract nouns and shapeshifting Rutans.  The Rutans, whose system of beliefs differ substantially from those of the Sontarans, have made various attacks in Sontaran society.  Some Sontarans have actually been Rutans (their shapeshifting disguises are so good) and have attacked the Sontaran homeland and various systems colonised by Sontaran forces in the past.  In order to maintain the supremacy of the Sontaran empire a system of legislative reforms have been introduced in order to deny Sontaran rights and ensure that the Rutans cannot infiltrate Sontaran society.  INdeed a new identity card system is to be introduced to ensure that Rutans will not blow up Sontarans (fat lot of bloody use for a clone race in its battle with shapeshifters but never mind).  The policy is that having to go through the bureaucracy and inevitable expense of obtaining an identity card will put the Rutans off taking the time and trouble to attack Sontar.

However, today Field Marshall Dr Styre spoke to the press.  In his homeland there is a movement in favour of independence.  The Field Marshall believes that if this movement was successful he would lose his chance to become supreme ruler of the Sontaran Empire this would be a victory for the Rutans (a similar tactic having been unsuccessfully adopted in recent Vardan elections).  An independent North SOntar, detached from the rest of the Sontaran Empire and supporting basic civil liberties and without the assistance of Sontaran military intelligence (which unsuccessfully ensnared the SOntarans in unsuccessful combat on Gallifrey or in the protracted matter of the Androgum Inheritance)  will leave North Sontar open to attack from the Rutans.   As in so many matter Field Marshall Dr Styre’s comments have come not from his mouth but out of his probic vent.

Please forgive me because the metaphor is not wholly successful, but is used because Field Marshall Dr Styre looks like a Sontaran.
